Palestra do Prof. Tamás Csoknyai - Impact of occupants’ behaviour on energy consumption

02-07-2026

No dia 3 de julho, na sala 4.17 do DEC, às 13h30, o Prof. Tamás Csoknyai dará uma palestra intitulada "Impact of occupants’ behaviour on energy consumption".

Descrição:

Occupant behaviour is one of the most influential yet uncertain factors affecting building energy performance and is a major contributor to the gap between predicted and actual energy consumption. This presentation reviews the mechanisms through which occupants influence energy use, including window opening, thermostat adjustment, lighting control, shading operation, and occupancy patterns. It introduces research methods for investigating occupant behaviour, ranging from surveys and interviews to smart monitoring systems and building management system (BMS) data analysis. Case studies from office buildings and schools demonstrate how behavioural patterns affect energy demand and indoor environmental quality. The presentation also discusses strategies for influencing user behaviour through education, feedback systems, gamification, financial incentives, and analytical demand-side management. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of high-resolution monitoring and statistical analysis in identifying inefficiencies and supporting informed decision-making.
